Meditation Classes

How do I start to implement a meditation practice? How do I breathe? How do I meditate when my back begins to hurt after 10 or 15 minutes? How is it possible to not think of anything or sit still for so long?
There are a lot of misconceptions about meditation. Just as with plant-based eating and yoga, I bet you have heard some of the benefits that can be obtained through meditation.

It can reduce stress - which can lead to better concentration, increase productivity and improve decision making. You may find an increase in self-awareness by noticing what comes up for you in terms of thoughts and emotions, in a non-judgemental way. All of this would surely lead to a happier self.

But do you need to meditate for an hour every day to receive these benefits? Not at all. Do you need to sit with your legs crossed and hands on your knees with a certain positioning of your fingers? Nope. Is it cheating to be counting or be guided through a meditation? Again, NO. Does meditation mean complete emptiness in your mind? Not necessarily.

My meditation classes differ depending on the student(s) needs and goals. Beginners may need more guidance in terms of breathing and relaxing techniques and therefore may involve a short introduction. Those who do have experience in meditation may want to learn different breathing or relaxing techniques. Or perhaps you'd like to experience the wonderful feeling of relaxation with yoga nidra, as it is said that 30 minutes of yoga nidra is the equivalent of 3 or 4 hours of sleep!
