Holistic Nutrition Consults

I once saw a dietitian when my weight gain began to get out of control. She showed me a plate that demonstrated portion control but as well meaning as she was, it felt useless. What did all these macronutrients really mean? How was I to implement this when I eat out? Surely my needs as a 5ft tall woman would be different from a 6ft tall male - but the plate looked the same for everyone? What about snacks? How might my emotions be affecting my eating habits? Would food just have to become so boring???

One of the most wondrous things about us as humans is our individuality. Our bodies don't all behave in the same way and they certainly don't all look or even feel the same! We have different goals, different lifestyles, we are in varying stages of our lives, we live in countries with contrasting cultures and climates. Therefore it is no surprise that there is no one wonder diet for optimal health or a magic pill that will help us achieve what we want.

This is the beauty of holistic nutrition - it embraces your individuality by addresses not just your physical health, but your mental, emotional and spiritual well-being also. We will not only focus on what you are eating but how, how much, when, why. Additionally it is important for me to note where your stresses lie, are you happy with your job, do you have children etc. These questions are just as important.

Before our initial consultation, I will ask you to fill out a few questionnaires that will give me a basic idea of where there may be some imbalances in your body. During this first consultation, I will then get to know you and gain a better understanding of your life/lifestyle. This will help me put together a program tailored to you and your needs that will be easy to implement into your current daily routine. My recommendations are aimed at being achievable. After all, what is the point of a plan that you can't stick to?!
